20TH ANNIVERSARY DINNER AND PRESENTATIONS

On Friday 14th June 2013 the League held a dinner to celebrate twenty years of the Competition and to make the presentations of Trophies and medals for the season.

The event was held at the Ivy Hill Hotel in Margareting which proved an excellent venue. After the dinner the loyal toast was proposed by Eddie Rhymes, the Chairman of the North Essex Veterans League. This was particularly appropriate as Eddie is a long time supporter of the League an Veterans Football. Bob Brimacombe, the League Chairman then welcomed the guests. The response was made by Brian Robinson, the Chairman of Old Parmiterians Football Club. Brian’s response was very witty and went down very well with everyone.

This was followed by the presentations. As well as the League and Cup presentations which were made by Eddie Rhymes, the Sportsmanship Trophy and Referee of the Year Awards were made.

The Sportsmanship Trophy is a very special award for the League as this is the Dave Thrift Trophy in memory of Committee Member Dave who passed away a number of years ago. This award is made from a combination of Referee sportsmanship marks and the number of cards issued to the team, or should we say lack of them. We were delighted to have Anna Thrift, Dave’s wife, and his brother Phil with us to make the presentation to this year’s winners who were Rayleigh.

The final award of the evening was the Referee of the Year Award which went to Steve Everitt.
