DIVISION ONE LEAGUE CUP FINAL PREVIEW
Chipping Ongar v Old Chelmsfordians Saturday 6th April 2013 at Billericay Town FC Kick Off 2.30pm
The Division One League Cup Final sees a meeting of two of the longest serving members of the Competition, Old Chelmsfordians having joined the League in the Competition’s second season and Chipping Ongar who are competing in their fifteenth season.
Following Chipping Ongar certainly hasn’t been dull since 2000/01 when they went from Division Three up to the Premier Division, back down to the Third Division and now they are on the verge of the Premier Division again following their 1-0 win over second placed Manford Way on Saturday. The upturn in fortunes since 2010/11 has been masterminded by Manager Dave Cooke, who has brought a noticeable professional attitude to preparations.
Old Chelmsfordians will certainly have their work cut out to break down the Chipping Ongar defence which hasn’t conceded a goal in Greene King Essex Veterans League games since 15th December 2012, a run of over 675 minutes. Old Chelmsfordians will believe they can triumph as until Saturday they were the only team to have beaten second placed Manford Way, which was by four goals to one in the First Round, they are also on a run of just one defeat in eleven games in all Competitions.
