DIVISION TWO LEAGUE CUP FINAL MATCH REPORT
Whilst Chipping Ongar dominated ball possession in the first half they found the SC Woodham defence well orgainsed and the odd time they did get a chance on goal Andy Wakefield pulled off some fine saves to deny them the lead. The half therefore ended goaless but on a chilly night the football served up was lively enough to keep the very large crowd entertained.
The second half was barley under way when a mistimed tackle gave Referee Steve Clarke no option but to weald the yellow card and book a Sporting Club Woodham player. Chipping Ongar resumed where they left off in the first half by pressurizing the Woodham goal but once again Andy Wakefield proved almost unbeatable although Chipping Ongar did get the ball in the net only for it to be ruled offside. That let off galvanised Sporting Club Woodham into stronger forways into the Chipping Ongar half and on twenty minutes, and still against the general run of play, a breakaway saw Rodney Hall in the Chipping Ongar goal parry a shot but only to the feet of Simon Arnold who scored from a tight angle.
This led to renewed effort by Chipping Ongar but now every player for Sporting Club Woodham was making sure that they had to fight for every ball and when a good chance came for Chipping Ongar once more, man of the match, Andy Wakefield pulled off a great save. Battle as they might Chipping Ongar were denied the chance to make many clear cut chances and when the final whistle sounded on what was a very entertaining game it was Sporting Club Woodham who picked up the Trophy presented by David Moorcroft, Veterans Representative at the Essex County FA.
