MATCH REPORTS 26TH JANUARY 2013

Division Two East

An extremely rare mistake by Rob Debell allowed Tillingham Hotspur to take the lead after twenty minutes against Sporting Club Woodham. Lee Brant however spared Debell’s blushes with an equaliser ten minutes before half time to gain a point for the visitors.

Division Three West

Rainham Working Mens Club showed no mercy to their visitors North Weald. There was a suspicion of offside as Jamie Warren started the ball rolling after eight minutes however there was no flag from the Assistant. Four minutes later John Cottee headed in a good cross from the right wing. Jamie Warren then added his second on the break with a tight finish at the near post. On twenty seven minutes Martin Gibbs made up for his earlier miss from a yard with a good turn and shot to put his side 4-0 up. North Weald then looked like they would get back in the game. Some good footwork from player manager Matt Kent got him behind the defence but Rainham keeper Paul Collis was out quickly to make a good stop. Then a great piece of wing play by Daniel Knowles saw him break clear from the half way line but as he got to the edge of the area he blazed wide.

After a quiet start to the second half the game burst into life on 59 minutes as North Weald thought they had scored as White’s shot beat Collis but just missed the post. They were made to pay for this as within sixty seconds Tony Mason had turned in the fifth for Rainham, followed by Daniel O’Connell drilling in the sixth from the edge of the area and Grant Delay added another all in a five minute spell. A ten minute lull in the action was broken by Tony Mason completing his hat trick with two back post headers in three minutes. Nine minutes from time Dave Matthews stole the ball and slotted it beyond the advancing Gary Saye in the North Weald goal. Saye then had no chance as Sean McCarthy blasted a penalty high into the net. Saye then pulled off a couple of good saves but was beaten for a twelfth and final time with two minutes to go as Daniel O’Connell scored with a free kick from outside the box. North Weald deserve credit from the positive attitude they showed to keep trying right to the end.
