MATCH REPORTS 5TH JANUARY 2013

Essex Saturday Veterans Cup 3rd Round

The Third Round was finally completed as both sides travelled to Witham to ensure the game was played. Debden Sports reward for giving up home advantage was a 5-2 victory over Maidonians.

Premier Division

White Notley got the New Year off to a good start by hitting Bowers & Pitsea (Vichouse) for six thanks to a Stacey Dawes hat-trick, two from Ellis Mead and a further goal from Gavin Bensley. Bowers did manage three goals in reply but left empty handed. Hutton Old Boys lost their 100% record for the season as they were held to 3-3 draw by hosts Met Police Chigwell. Defences ruled in the meeting of Sungate and Frenford Senior as the games finished goal less.

Division One League Cup

Braces by Robert Pearl and Robert Stiff along with a single strike by Iain Thomas was enough to earn Old Parmiterians a place in the Semi Final draw at the expense of Rosebay.

Division One

Goals from Mark Doyle and Michael Kilbey for Old Chelmsfordians were not enough to stop Newbury Park going top of the Division as the visitors managed three goals in reply.

Division Two East

Hawkwell Athletic must have thought Matthew Kemp’s goal was going to be enough to stretch their lead at the top of the Division but they hadn’t accounted for Leigh Ramblers late fight back. Two goals from Howard Mackler and one from Gary Matthews all in the last seven minutes of play were enough to put Leigh Ramblers into second place just two points behind Hawkwell Athletic with a game in hand.

Division Two West

West Essex won by the odd goal in seven at Little Thurrock Dynamos Reserves thanks to two goals from Anthony Chugs and one each from Greg Blackett and Michael Johnson to maintain second place. Hot on their heals are Bishops Stortford who took a 3-0 half time lead against Ryan before running out 5-1 winners courtesy of Joe Ferrick 2, Stuart Atkinson, Christopher Ball and Andrew Green.

Division Three League Cup

Silver End United managed to have seven difference scorers in their 7-4 win over Westhamians. They were Simon Doman, Craig Heard, Shaun Ingram, Matthew Ings, Andrew Johnson, Jason Fletcher and David Richardson.

Division Three East

Weather has hit Chelmer Vets harder than most as they managed to complete only their third League game of the season on Saturday. So not only will they have been pleased to play, the two goals from Simon Clarke and the other from Warren Backhouse that gave them a 3-2 victory at Peverel will have made the game even better. A Rod McGurk hat-trick gave Springfield Reserves a 3-3 draw at leaders Shenfield Reserves.

Division Three South

Against the run of play Robert Scholes neatly finished a one on one with the keeper to give Leigh Town the lead. Then just before half time a neatly worked move enabled Mark Nicholson to fire home a second giving Leigh Town the half time advantage against Cricketers Horndon Saxons Reserves but they had their goal keeper to thank for a string of top class saves. A penalty in the opening minutes of the second half by Steven Nicholas reduced the arrears however within a minute a lucky header by Kevin Mullen restored Leigh Town’s two goal advantage. Cricketers Horndon Reserves kept battling away and Steven Nicholas scored his second before more ill discipline by Leigh Town gave away another needless penalty which Taner Erdal converted to give Cricketers Horndon Saxons Reserves their first point of the season.

Division Four East

A tight game between Horndon and Rayleigh as you might expect with second meeting third with the game finishing two a piece. Horndon’s goals coming from Chris Coughlan and Mo Pervez. In the other game in the Division Ford Basildon Reserves comfortably beat Academy Soccer 9-2.

Division Four West.

Leaders Doddinghurst Olympic maintained their title quest with a 3-1 win at Old Parmiterians Reserves. Their goals coming from Colin O’Neill, Trevor Sharpling and Paul Watson. The hosts reply came from Kenny Ballard with fifteen minutes to go. Hatfield Broad Oak’s manager Simon Marshall clearly wanted to make amends for their defeat in their previous game as Nick Blackman-Hayward 2, David Milne, John Newman and Kevin Williams-Taylor gave them a 5-0 half time lead at Lowhall. In the second half Blackman-Hayward completed his hat-trick and Williams-Taylor added his second to complete the rout. Paul Dike managed a consolation of Lowhall. Fulbrook Royals were another side who had their shooting boots on in the first half as they led 4-0 at half time against Newport but a more even second half saw the game finish 5-1. Fulbrook Royals goals coming from Martin Newman 2, David Mathurin, Michael Wynne and a Kevin Hunt penalty with Philip Brockwell replying for Newport. It was much closer between Hornchurch and West Essex Reserves. David Oakley gave Hornchurch a 27th minute lead but they could only hold on to this for four minutes before Peter Skinner equalised. It looked like Hornchurch were going to gain reward for moving the game to get it played until Paul Cox dashed their hopes with the winner for West Essex Reserves with just four minutes remaining.

All other games in the League were postponed.
