MATCH REPORTS 6TH APRIL 2013

A mixed week for Met Police Chigwell this week. They finished the week top of the table after Little Thurrock Dynamos were deducted twelve points for an administrative error, however after losing the League Cup Final on Wednesday they lost 7-4 at home to Port of London Authority on Saturday. Met Police scorers were Stuart Jones, Darren Oliver, Dave Stittle and Gabby Williams. Springfield eased their worries with a 3-0 win at Frenford Senior.

Division One League Cup Final

Old Chelmsfordians substitute Jimmy Bushell’s timing was excellent as he meet a left wing corner to be the first person to breach the Chipping Ongar defence in the League or League Cup in over 730 minutes. He must have thought he had won the game until Glen Knight equalised in the final minute of added time to force an extra half hour. It then took penalties to settle it with Old Chelmsfordians winning 4-2 to extend Chipping Ongar’s Cup Final jinx.

Division One

Manford Way closed the gap on Chipping Ongar at the top of the table with a 3-1 victory over Beacon Hill Rovers. The home sides goals coming from Franklyn Hunte, Andy Vesey and Fraser Bay. It is looking more like the meting of the top two on 20th April will decide the destination of the title. The third and fourth place ground sharers meet at The Academy but couldn’t be separated as Newbury Park drew two all with Britannia. The latter’s goals coming from Kes Outhwaite and Stuart Bailey. Herongate Athletic picked up their first League win of the season at the expense of Old Parmiterians by two goals to nil.

Division Two League Cup Semi Final

A stoppage time headed goal from substitute Steve Swift was sufficient to give Sporting Club Woodham the opportunity to defend the trophy they won last season.

In the first half Sporting Club Woodham struggled to cope with the movement and pace of the Dunmow Rhodes midfield and forwards but when the visitors created chances they were thwarted by keeper Simon Wraight, promoted from the reserves and playing in goal for the first time this season.

After the break even though the home side seemed to have catered better with the visitors forwards it was still Dunmow Rhodes that largely controlled the game but they were unable to convert any of the many opportunities they created. As the second half went on the Sporting Club Woodham attack seemed to come more into the game particularly on their left where Ross Stevens was getting a lot more space in which to play and create chances. It was from there that that Sporting Club Woodham won a corner that lead to the goal in the dying minutes.

Division Two East

This has turned into the tightest Division with six teams in the hunt for promotion. Hawkwell Athletic are in pole position after their 1-0 win over White Ensign. Tillingham Hotspur in second placed slipped up by only picking up one point out of a possible six in their double header with Cricketers Horndon Saxons. They drew the first game 2-2 but lost the second 2-0.  Leigh Ramblers Howard Mackler was the star of the day with nine goals including one from the penalty spot as they beat Herongate Athletic Reserves 14-1. Leigh Ramblers goals came from Jamie Torhurst 2, Lee Donoghue, Trevor Kernott and Sinclair Walton. The only bright spot for Herongate Athletic Reserves was Kevin Casey’s 15th minute strike. Pavilion United beat FOBS (East Hanningfield) 4-1, the visitors goal coming from Dave Alexander.

West Essex returned to winning ways thanks to a Chris Bangura hat trick, Yomi Adu and Steven Crook scoring in their 5-2 win over Little Thurrock Dynamos Reserves. Collier Row’s scorers were Kevin Edwards 2 and Niki Hunte with James Prue replying for Harold Wood Athletic. This week Hale End Athletic were their victims as Teddy Sherringham 3, Martin Bellamy 2, John Cheesewright, Keith Hoad and John Mann scored in the 8-2 win. The bottom three are starting to be cut adrift after Blackmore Royals won both games in the double header with Ryan. Division Three East

The top two met at Paradise Road, Writtle on Saturday with the hosts having all the joy in a 3-1 victory over Chelmer Vets. The visitor’s goal coming from a Steve May penalty. Writtle will still have to rely on Chelmer slipping up again if they are to win the title. Henderson Casuals are also in the promotion hunt after their 6-2 win over Peverel. Shenfield Reserves interest in the promotion race virtually came to and end after their 2-0 defeat at Springfield Reserves. Although a place lower than Shenfield Reserves, Silver End United maintained their interest with a 6-0 win over White Roding. Silver End United’s goals came from Andrew Johnson 3, Daniel Gray, Darren Blackburn and Jason Fletcher. Silver End’s Achilles heel may be the number of drawn games.
