MATCH REPORTS SATURDAY 20TH OCTOBER 2012

ECFA Saturday Veterans Cup First Round

The stand out game of the round was the last year’s League Champions Port of London Authority at home to Little Thurrock Dynamos who won the Competition last year under the name of Ockendon. Little Thurrock got the defence of their trophy off to a good start with a 3-0 victory and hope this is a good omen having beaten the same opponents in the first round last year. Premier Division White Notley went goal crazy scoring twenty three times without reply against Division Three South visitors Hullbridge Sports. This was only one goal short of their total in the League for the whole of last season.

Generally games went with Divisional status although two Division Three West teams beat Division Two West sides, divisional leaders Heath Park won 4-3 after extra time against Harold Wood Athletic whilst Deben Sports emerged victorious 8-2 at West Essex.

The longest trip of the day was a round trip of over one hundred miles for Frenford Senior to visit AFC Wivenhoe but it was made worthwhile with a 2-1 win.  Long distance travel also suited Sporting Club Woodham who won 5-1 against Newport. Probably the team least looking forward to an eighty mile round trip were Old Parmiterians who had lost 4-0 at Beacon Hill Rovers less than a month ago in the League. They need not have worried as this time they won 4-1 to earn a home tie in Round Two.

Penalty kicks were needed to settle three ties with Chipping Ongar gaining revenge for their Quarter Final defeat last year to Blackmore Royals, Springfield beating Writtle and Ford Basildon triumphing at Chelmer Vets. Pavilion United didn’t need penalties to beat Rayleigh but did require an extra time goal after finishing the ninety minutes at one all.

Scoring five goals away from home was a popular occurrence with Bishops Stortford managing it with three replies from Hannakins Farm, there was the same score line for visitors Leigh Town at Runwell Hospital and Cricketers Horndon Saxons doing it with one reply from Hockley & Hawkwell. Great Baddow and White Roding went one better when beating Marks Tey and North Weald respectively with both opponents replying twice. White Ensign did even better beating Doddinghurst Olympic 8-3.

In other games Benfleet lost 4-2 at home to Westhamians, Met Police Chigwell NE won 3-0 at Leigh Ramblers, Runwell Town won 2-1 at North Essex Veterans League side Lawford Lads, Manford Way won 2-0 at home to Newbury Park, Britannia won 3-2 at Henderson Casuals, Paringdon beat Peverel 3-1 and Shenfield beat Horndon 4-0.

Lowhall and Hornminster both progressed to the second round as their respective opponents Weeley Athletic and Hawkwell Athletic could not field teams.  FOBS (East Hanningfield) v Ryan, Maidonians v Academy Soccer, Bowers & Pitsea (Vichouse) v Sungate, Old Chelmsfordians v Tillingham Hotspur and Hale End Athletic v Hutton Old Boys will all have to be played next week due to waterlogged pitches.

Division Two West

Little Thurrock Dynamos Reserves beat Old Parmiterians Reserves 3-2 thanks to goals from Andy Barber, Rob Clarke and Gary Warne

Division Three East

Craig Heard first half goal meant Silver End United only trailed Springfield Reserves 2-1 at half time. The key second half action was the dismissal of Springfield goal keeper for denying a goal scoring opportunity. Andrew Johnson despatched the resultant penalty to give Silver End a point.

Division Three South

Little Thurrock Dynamos A completed a great day for the club by beating Cricketers Horndon Saxons Reserves 4-0

Division Three West

Met Police Chigwell NE Reserves continued their recovery from their opening day hammering with a third consecutive victory this time 5-1 over Sanders, The Police scorers were Stephen Curry 2, Dean Coyle, Steve Meechan and Terry Sharpe. The other game in the Division saw Rainham Working Mens Club draw one all with William Fitt. The visitor’s goal coming from Vincent Bryne.

Division Four East

Ludlows opened up a three point gap at the top of the Division thanks to a 4-2 win over ground share hosts Ford Basildon Reserves. Hannakins Farm Reserves had to reply on their super subs, Rasmus Stockholm and Jodie Prevwell after Kevin Hancock with two and Josh Groves had scored for White Notley Reserves in the first half. Stockholm scored a hat trick and Prevwell a double as the hosts ran out 5-3 winners. Hutton Old Boys Reserves build on their cup victory in their last outing beating Old Chelmsfordians Reserves 2-0.

Division Four West.

This Division is the tightest of them all with second to seventh place all being on six points. Goals from Ian Aldridge and Martin Newham had enabled Fulbrook Royals to be level at half time during their visit to Old Parmiterians A. However the hosts managed another goal in the second half to take the points. Hatfield Broad Oak improved their goal difference against Harold Wood Athletic Reserves thanks to Kevin Dellow and David East which moved them up to third. West Essex Reserves  joined the six point group thanks to two goals from David Ludlow and further strikes from Steve Knight, Darren Johnson and Phil Curran against Hornchurch who replied through David Oakley.
