ECFA Saturday Veterans Cup First Round
Hanna’s Field saw the meeting of two teams FOBS (East Hanningfield) and Ryan who were both looking for their first victories of the season. As you would expect a close fought encounter followed with FOBS claiming the win by four goals to three. Sungate started the quickest taking the lead at Bowers & Pitsea (Vichouse), they also finished strongly with two goals in the last twenty minutes. Unfortunately for Sungate their hosts scored four times in between to progress. Division One Old Chelmsfordians beat Tillingham Hotspur from Division Two East 3-0. Premier Division pace setters Hutton Old Boys accounted for Hale End Athletic by eight goals without reply. In the remaining game Maidonians beat Academy Soccer 5-2.
Premier Division
Little Thurrock Dynamos ended Met Police Chigwell’s unbeaten record this season thanks to a 3-1 win. The game between Frenford Senior and Shenfield was abandoned after thirty minutes following an injury to the Referee.
Division One
Newbury Park recorded their first win of the season thank to a solitary goal against Beacon Hill Rovers. Chipping Ongar opened up a four point gap at the top thanks to a 6-1 win at Old Parmiterians.
Division Two East
Hawkwell Athletic moved up to second place thanks to a five goal salvo from Wayne Macpherson and an goal from their new signing against Pavilion United who replied in the second half via Matt Rivers and Ritchie Stoker. It was a game of two halves at Dunmow Rhodes where the hosts went in two up thanks to Richard Valks and a penalty from David Badham. The second half belonged to Leigh Ramblers who took a point thanks to Lee Donoghue and Gary Matthews. Another game where the hosts could not hold onto a half time lead was at Herongate Athletic Reserves who led through Damien Carliar but Sporting Club Woodham claimed a point in the second half. The other game in the Division also finished all square as Cricketers Horndon Saxons and White Ensign shared four goals.
Division Two West
With the top two not in action Harold Wood Athletic could not take full advantage as they were held at home by Collier Row. Harold Wood’s goals came from Danny Baines, David Baines and James Prue with the visitors replying with a Niki Hunte hat-trick. All the goals at Blackmore Royals came in the second half with the hosts scoring three times with Malcolm Elridge replying twice for Little Thurrock Dynamos Reserves. Robert Thorne’s goal was not enough for Old Parmiterians Reserves as Bishops Stortford scored three times.
Division Three League Cup
Easiest progress to the Quarter Finals was made by Debden Sports who crushed Leigh Town 11-1. Debden’s goals came from hat-tricks by Steve Game and Tony Maslin and single strikes by Alan Marks, Jon Wheeler, Michael Carter, a new signing and an own goal. Far tighter was the Paringdon v Met Police Chigwell Reserves game where the visitors won 3-1 on penalties after the game finished five all after extra time. Met Police goals came from Stuart Wilson 2, Steve Singleton 2 and Trevor Linahan. Heath Park scored six times through Terry Hobborough 2, Neil Homes, Vinnie Webster, Jason West and a new signing whilst White Roding managed just two in reply from Manuel Hermitage and Mark North. In the remaining games hosts Westhamians, Silver End United and Little Thurrock Dynamos A all progressed without their respective visitors North Weald, Blackmore Royals Reserves and Rainham Working Mens Club managing a goal between them.
Division Three East
Not a good day for home teams in this Division with only Springfield Reserves managing to get a point thanks to a goal from Gerald Fitzgerald against Writtle. Henderson Casuals lost their 100% league record as Shenfield Reserves maintained theirs thanks to a 3-2 score line. Great Baddow came home with all three points from their trip to Peverel thanks to a 2-1 win.
Division Three South
If you want goals Hullbridge Sports are clearly a team to watch. After twenty three goals in their game this week there was another eleven on Saturday. Sadly for Hullbridge visitors Benfleet got six of them. Runwell Town dropped their first points of the season as they could only draw with ten man Hockley & Hawkwell. Dean Cook and Garry O’Leary scored for the hosts, with Mark Hope and Jon Ward replying before the latter saw red. For the second week running Hannakins Farm scored three times at home on this occasion via Paul Hennan, Steve Auvache and Colin Webb but still lost by two clear goals this time the victors being Ford Basildon. Far more straight forward at Sporting Club Woodham Reserves as they scored three times without reply against Cricketers Horndon Saxons Reserves.
Division Three West
William Fitt gained their win of the season at the expense of Sanders thanks to a 4-1 score line. William Fitt’s goals came from Michael Murray 2, Adam Cliss and Stephen Ramsey.
Division Four East
Having waited sixteen months for a clean sheet Steve Northfield achieved his second in consecutive league games as Horndon won by a single goal against Hannakins Farm Reserves. Rayleigh beat Ford Basildon Reserves 2-1.
Division Four West.
This Division continues to be incredibly tight with three points separating the top seven teams. West Essex Reserves improved their goal difference thanks to Damien Friel, Peter Skinner, David Strong and a Phil Curran penalty at Newport to jump up to second place. Hatfield Broad Oak are in third place after a single goal was enough against Old Parmiterians A. It was doubles all round at Fulbrook Royals as they overcame Lowhall 4-2. Fulbrook’s doubles came from Dave Newberry and Martin Newman, whilst Lowhall’s came from Umesh Gadhvi. Honours were even as Hornchurch scored twice in the last fifteen minutes through Mark Black and David Oakley against Harold Wood Athletic Reserves who had scored via Tony Burke and David Rai.
