WALES OVER 50’S V ENGLAND OVER 50’S AT MILLENNIUM STADIUM, CARDIFF

On13th May 2013 England Over 50’s travelled to Cardiff to take on their Welsh counterparts. What made this fixture extra special was it was played at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. The England side had a strong representation from the Greene King Essex Veterans League with John Day, Paul Mitchell, John Cowan and Ian Greenwood from Old Parmiterians and Steve Edkins and Peter Coffill from Herongate Athletic taking part.

The game was played in aid of Prostate Cancer UK and local Cardiff Charity BE OAR-SOME. The game was played in a great spirit as usual and Wales, captained for the first time by Mark Jones, quickly took a two goal lead thanks to Peter Morgan’s brace and Jeff White added a third just before half time. This flattered Wales as England had played very well but they came up against goalkeeper Mike Davies in good form and his second half replacement, Mark Mayes made two outstanding saves to keep England out. Stuart Evans scored for Wales to make it 4 - 0 but the score didn’t matter as both teams had produced an exciting game which was a credit to both Countries.
