Essex Saturday Veterans Cup 2nd Round

Two Premier Division sides suffered cup upsets with White Notley losing 3-1 at Division Three West side Paringdon and previous winners Springfield going down 2-1 to Sungate of Division One. There was very nearly a surprise at Chelmer where the Division Two East side led 2-1 against Division One Newbury Park with a minute to play of the second half. Newbury Park managed to equalise and then score a goal in each period of extra time to progress 4-2. Premier Division Met Police Chigwell also needed extra time to overcome Blackmore Royals of Division Three East 3-2 after the game had been level at a goal a piece after normal time. Other games needing extra time were Hockley & Hawkwell versus Lawford Lads with the North Essex Side triumphing 7-6 and Holland won 5-2 against Writtle.

Three games that were settled quicker were AFC Wivenhoe beating Hornminster 8-0, Debden Sport winning 5-0 at Panfield Bell and Leigh Ramblers overcoming Halstead Town 5-1. The other sides to progress on Saturday were Frenford Senior by beating Westhamians 2-1 and Manford Way as Stanway Rovers could not field a team.  Beacon Hill Rovers v Chipping Ongar, Britannia v Little Waltham, Hutton Old Boys v Heath Park and Old Chelmsfordians v Little Thurrock Dynamos all fell victim to the weather and the teams will have to try again next week.

Division One

Leaders Collier Row suffered their first League defeat of the season when they went down by six goals to four to Old Parmiterians. The damage being done by Darren Mendez-Bailey 2, Robert Stiff 2, Darren Shorey and Robert Thorne. White Ensign will be pleased they don’t have to go to Cricketers Horndon Saxons again this season having lost there in the League Cup two weeks ago this week they went down by four goals to two.

Division Two West

Little Thurrock Dynamos Reserves drew level on points with leaders Heath Park after they beat third place Maidonians 3-1. Harold Wood Athletic leap frogged Hale End Athletic by beating them 4-1

Division Three League Cup

Great Baddow progressed to the Quarter Finals with a 6-2 win at Rainham Working Mens Club.

Division Three East

A goal in each half gave Hatfield Broad Oak their first League victory of the season when they travelled to FOBS. The hosts replied through a Dave Alexander penalty

Division Three South

Hutton Old Boys Reserves inflicted leaders Little Thurrock Dynamos A first League defeat of the season as they recorded a 3-2 win.

Division Three West

Mark Robson gave Met Police Chigwell Reserves a 20th minute lead against West Essex Reserves which was cancelled out six minutes later by Mark Manangan. Terry Sharpe restored Met Police Chigwell Reserves lead on 38minutes before Nicholas Stagg sealed the win in the second half. Sungate Reserves maintained their 100% record with a 6-2 win at home to Ryan. The visitor’s goals coming from Marc Brown and Ian Wheal. Harold Wood Athletic Reserves picked by their first points of the season as goals from Joseph Kollar, Tony Burke and their new signing gave them a 3-2 win over William Fitt.

Division Four East

Leigh Town drew level on points with leaders Rayleigh by beating them by two goals to one. Peverel’s three game winning run came to an end as they went down 2-0 to Chelmer Reserves. All the goals came in the first half as Horndon beat Leigh Ramblers Reserves 3-2. Horndon’s goals coming from Jamie Bailey, Nathan Sanders and Sam Jacobs with Leigh Ramblers Reserves replies coming from Mark Jenkins and Steve Isbell.

Division Four West

Old Barkabbeyans maintained their lead at the top of the Division as they beat Cricketers Horndon Saxons Reserves 5-1. Old Barkabbeyans goals coming from Ricky Riches 2, Lee Brown, Nicholas Clark and Kevin Williams. Cricketers Horndon Saxons Reserves reply came from Stuart Lawrence. Sanders moved up to second place as second half goals from Tom Chawner and Jason Lucas gave them the points against Hatfield Broad Oak Reserves. An Andrew Double hat trick was not enough for Newport as they went down by five goals to three against Old Parmiterians A. White Roding Reserves beat Hornchurch thanks to braces from Lee Cook and Barry Rawlinson. Hornchurch’s reply came from Cy Taylor. North Weald’s two new signing’s did the damage as they got all three goals as they beat Spartan Athletic despite a reply from Trevor Mackney.

Over 45 Division

Peverel took advantage of Pavilion United’ game being off by beating Hannakins Farm 4-1 to go top of the table. Old Parmiterians and Glassmasters shared eight goals at the Douglas Eyre Centre with the host’s goals coming from Gary Luck 2, Dennis Hawkins and Carl Francis. Herongate Athletic made the most of the trip to Newport by winning by five goals to one. Herongate Athletic’s goals included doubles by Paul King and Harry Brooks with Kevin Moore scoring for the hosts.
