PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE CUP FINAL REPORT

Met Police Chigwell NE 2 Ockendon 4 After Extra Time

An extraordinary game at MaldonTown decided the Premier Cup Final.

Ockendon were the front runners for almost the whole of the first half playing some good football, on a wet but good surface, without really penetrating the Met Police defence to give themselves any clear cut chances. Then late on in the half Gabby Williams committed two bookable offences within a short period which saw Met Police reduced to ten men.Shortly after that and in added time for the half a cross field pass was slid in at the far post by Andy Thompson to give Ockendon a 1-0 half time lead against the ten men of Met Police.

Within five minutes of the restart that lead had been doubled when a good move ended with Tommy Lee grabbing the goal to make it 2-0. With Met Police one man down all bets were off on them making a comeback  but Ockendon try as they might  could not seal the game with a third and with only ten minutes remaining Met Police player Ian Fleming gambled with a long low shot that swung into the corner of the Ockendon net to make it 2-1.  This gave Met Police a bit of spark which resulted in Ockendon conceding a free kick some twenty-five yards out.  A speculative drive towards goal was spurned by the Ockendon keeper allowing Stuart Jones to follow-up with a simple tap in to surprisingly level the scores  right at the death.

Extra time was only two minutes old when Tommy Lee bravely met a cross from the left and powered in a header to give his side a 3-2 lead. It was not long after he had recovered from a clash of heads in getting the goal that he stole a march on the Met Police defence and with them trailing in his wake he smacked in his third and stretched Ockendons lead to 4-2. Despite further valiant efforts by Met Police they couldn’t stage another comeback and Ockendon try as they might they couldn’t get past Alan Moore in the Met Police goal so the Trophy went to Ockendon.
