Sadly Sir Tom Finney passed away recently. This led to some reminiscing in the household of Dave Etheridge of Tillingham Hotspur. During the Second World War Sir Tom Finney fought in Montgomery's Desert Rats in Egypt along side Dave’s Dad Geoffrey. The photo shows Sir Tom on the left and Geoffrey on the right.

Essex Saturday Veterans Cup Quarter Finals If there was an award for the variety of places to play home games then Debden Sports of Division Two West would be well in the running. This week they did a seventy mile round trip to Canvey Island to play Hutton Old Boys from the Premier Division on the 4G pitch at Waterside Farm. Feb 9, 2014 — Match Reports 8th February 2014


Essex Saturday Veterans Cup Quarter Finals Manford Way’s Manager Ronnie Bates expert use of rolling substitutions had a major impact against the eleven man squad of AFC Wivenhoe. This included the first half introduction of Che Stadhart who broke the deadlock after 37 minutes with a stunning strike with the outside of his boot from forty yards out. After the break Che Stadhart completed his hat trick which included a penalty. Chris Anderson scored Manford Way’s other goal to set a meeting with the winners of the Debden Sports and Hutton Old Boys tie which will be played next week. Picture is Little Thurrock Dynamos

Feb 2, 2014 — Match Reports 1st February 2014


All the games that survived the weather this weekend in the League were played on Astroturf with four Clubs switching venues to enable matches to take place. Division Two East Sporting Club Woodham and Tillingham Hotspur took part in a closely fought encounter which was affected by the strong wind. Tillingham Hotspur took the lead on 18 minutes when the wind held the ball up on the edge of the area which meant the Sporting Club Woodham keeper couldn’t use his hands as he challenged for the ball. It broke to Scott Jones who rolled the ball into the net. Sporting Club Woodham equalised on the half hour when Aaron Smith finished at the far post. Picture is Ryan

Applications for new Clubs or additional Teams of existing Clubs are now open. The closing date for applications from new Clubs is the 20th April 2014. Jan 26, 2014 — Match Reports 25th January 2014


Essex Saturday Veterans Cup Quarter Final There was an upset as ten man Sungate from Division One came from behind to beat Premier Division Port of London Authority 6-5 on penalties after the game had finished two all after extra time. Jan 19, 2014 — Match Reports 18th January 2014


Division Two West Last season Hale End Athletic and Maidonians suffered lots of frustration with their shared pitch at the Britannia Sports Ground regularly being under water. Such was the frustration they both switched to Astroturf pitches this season and both were rewarded by being able to play on Saturday although with different rewards. Maidonians beat third placed Little Thurrock Dynamos Reserves 3-0 with two goals from Teddy Sherringham and one from Martin Bellamy, whilst Hale End Athletic went down 2-1 to Britannia. Premier Division Met Police Chigwell will be delighted they don’t have to play White Notley again this season. Having lost to them twice already this season, conceding four goals each time, this time they found themselves five goals down at half time as Gavin Bensley and Mark King both scored braces and Neil Twin got the other for the visitors.
