May 19, 2013 — Match Reports 18th May 2013


Division One With Manford Way’s game being called off due to Britannia being unable to field a side Chipping Ongar knew a win by nine clear goals over already relegated Herongate Athletic would give them the title. A mixture of determination and a small slice of luck Herongate Athletic held out for half an hour before Chipping Ongar took the lead through Tony Martin and then they added two more to go in 3-0 up at half time, which included one of David Gipps five of the afternoon. Premier Division Leli Bajada, Michael Black and Jason Brown scored the goals for Hutton Old Boys in their 3-1 win over Springfield which confirmed them as Premier Division Champions. Premier Division At the top of table Met Police Chigwell scored two late goals to draw 3-3 with Hutton Old Boys. Met Police Chigwell’s goals came from Stuart Jones before an Eddie Nwachukwu penalty and Dave Stittle scored in the last five minutes. Bowers & Pitsea (Vichouse) missed goal keeper Phil Langridge, who completed the London Marathon on Sunday, as they went down 4-2 against Little Thurrock Dynamos. Cricketers Horndon Saxons 3 Sporting Club Woodham 0 On one of the warmest Saturdays of the season it took a while for both sides to get into their stride and although there was lots of endeavour both sides cancelled out each other providing few goalmouth thrills for the large crowd basking in the sunshine. Cricketers Horndon Saxons started to build up some pressure and on thirty minutes they got the breakthrough when captain Kellye Stephens met a cross and planted his header out of the reach of Andy Wakefield in the Sporting Club Woodham goal.

Division One Awful news from the Britannia v Chipping Ongar game which was abandoned with fifteen minutes to go after Matt Marvel of Chipping Ongar suffered a badly broken leg which required the Air Ambulance and over an hour’s treatment on the pitch before he could be moved. Fully credit to Kes Outhwaite of Britannia who stayed with Matt through his treatment to try to assist. It showed the true spirit of the League.
